Use WhatsApp Web on the Other Phone’s Browser

WhatsApp Web is a popular way to access your account on other devices, and it works on mobile browsers too. I’ve used this method multiple times when my phone was dead—here’s how to do it right.

Access via QR Code on the Browser

  • Open browser on device: Go to the WhatsApp Web website (https://www.logws-whatsapp.com) on the other phone’s browser. I recommend Chrome or Safari because they’re more compatible with WhatsApp Web. Outdated browsers might not load the page properly, so if you see an error, ask the device owner to update their browser first.
  • Scan QR code from your phone: On your primary phone (if you have it nearby), open WhatsApp, tap the three dots in the top right corner, select “Linked Devices,” then “Link a Device.” Point your phone’s camera at the QR code on the other phone’s browser. Wait for the scan to complete—this usually takes 2-3 seconds, but if the connection is weak, it might take longer.
  • Log out after use: Once you’re done checking messages, don’t skip this step. Tap the three dots in the top right of the WhatsApp Web interface and select “Log Out.” I once forgot to log out of a friend’s phone, and they accidentally opened my WhatsApp later—total embarrassment. This step keeps your account secure, especially if you’re using a public device.
  • Use Incognito Mode for Extra Privacy

  • Open incognito window: On the other phone’s browser, open an incognito (private) window. For Chrome, tap the three dots and select “New Incognito Tab”; for Safari, tap the tabs icon and choose “Private.” Incognito mode doesn’t save your browsing history or cookies, so no trace of your session is left after you close the window.
  • Scan QR code as before: Follow the same QR scan steps as the previous method. The incognito mode ensures that even if the device owner checks their browser history, they won’t see that you accessed WhatsApp Web.
  • Close window to log out: When you’re finished, simply close the incognito window. This automatically logs you out of WhatsApp Web, so you don’t have to remember to do it manually. This is my go-to method for public phones or devices I don’t trust fully.
  • According to WhatsApp’s official support page (https://faq.whatsapp.com/en/android/28030012/?lang=en&rel=nofollow), WhatsApp Web uses end-to-end encryption, so your messages are safe as long as you log out properly.

Use WhatsApp’s Linked Devices Feature for Another Phone

WhatsApp introduced the “Link to Phone” feature in 2023, which lets you link another phone to your account without transferring data. This is perfect if you need temporary access to your chats on someone else’s phone.

  • Open Linked Devices on your phone: On your primary phone, open WhatsApp, tap the three dots, select “Linked Devices.” Then tap “Link a Device” and choose “Link to Phone” (this option is available on WhatsApp version 2.23.10.79 or later). If you don’t see this option, update your WhatsApp app first.
  • Scan QR code on target phone: On the other phone, install WhatsApp (if it’s not already there) and tap “Link to Existing Account” on the welcome screen. A QR code will appear. Point your primary phone’s camera at this QR code to link the devices. The other phone will now show your WhatsApp chats, and you can send/receive messages just like on your primary device.
  • Access your messages: Once linked, the other phone will stay connected until you unlink it. I used this method when my sister needed to check my WhatsApp for a flight confirmation—she could access my chats without me giving her my password.
  • Go to Linked Devices: On your primary phone, open WhatsApp, tap three dots, select “Linked Devices.” You’ll see a list of all linked devices, including the other phone you just added. Each entry shows the device type and last active time.
  • Select the device to unlink: Tap on the name of the other phone. A pop-up will appear with options to unlink or view session details. Tap “Unlink” to remove the connection.
  • Confirm unlink: A second pop-up will ask if you’re sure you want to unlink the device. Tap “Unlink” to confirm. This step is non-negotiable—leaving a device linked can lead to unauthorized access. I always unlink devices immediately after use to keep my account safe.
  • Transfer WhatsApp Data to the New Phone Temporarily

If you don’t have your primary phone nearby (e.g., you left it at home), you can restore a backup of your WhatsApp data to another phone. This method is useful but requires you to have a recent backup.

    Use Google Drive Backup (Android)

  • Backup data on primary phone: On your Android phone, open WhatsApp > Settings > Chats > Chat Backup. Tap “Back Up” to save your chats to Google Drive. Make sure you’re logged into the correct Google account—last year, I accidentally backed up my data to my work account instead of my personal one, which caused a lot of hassle. Also, ensure you have enough storage space in Google Drive (if not, delete old backups or upgrade your plan).
  • Restore backup on another phone: On the other Android phone, install WhatsApp, enter your phone number (the same as your primary account), and verify it via SMS or call. When prompted, tap “Restore” to load your backup from Google Drive. The time this takes depends on the size of your backup and internet speed—my mom’s 5GB backup took 15 minutes to restore.
  • Log out after use: Once you’ve accessed your messages, go to WhatsApp > Settings > Account > Log Out. This removes your account from the other phone. If you’re using someone else’s phone, ask them to back up their own WhatsApp data first—restoring your backup will overwrite their existing chats.
  • Use iCloud Backup (iOS)

  • Enable iCloud backup: On your iPhone, open WhatsApp > Settings > Chats > Chat Backup. Toggle on “iCloud Backup” and tap “Back Up Now.” Make sure you have enough iCloud storage—if not, you might need to upgrade your plan or delete old photos/videos to free up space.
  • Restore on another iPhone: On the other iPhone, install WhatsApp, enter your phone number, and verify it. When prompted, tap “Restore Chat History” to load your backup from iCloud. This process may take a few minutes, so be patient.
  • Sign out of iCloud: After you’re done, go to the other iPhone’s Settings > [Your Name] > iCloud > Turn off WhatsApp. Then log out of your iCloud account from the other phone to prevent any future syncs. This step ensures that your data doesn’t stay on the other device.
  • Common WhatsApp Web Questions & Answers

Question: Can I use WhatsApp Web to log into my account on another phone without my primary device?

Answer: No, you can’t use WhatsApp Web to log into your account on another phone without access to your primary device. WhatsApp Web requires you to scan a QR code using your primary phone’s camera, which means you need your primary device nearby. This is a security measure to prevent unauthorized access to your account. If you don’t have your primary phone with you, you’ll need to use other methods like linking the device via the Linked Devices feature (if you had set it up earlier) or restoring a backup. However, restoring a backup will overwrite the other phone’s existing WhatsApp data, so make sure to inform the owner before doing that.

Question: Is WhatsApp Web safe to use on a public phone?

Answer: Using WhatsApp Web on a public phone can be risky if you don’t take proper precautions. Public phones may have keyloggers or malware that can steal your data. To stay safe, always use incognito mode when accessing WhatsApp Web on a public device. Incognito mode doesn’t save your browsing history or cookies, so your session won’t be stored. Also, remember to log out immediately after use, even if you’re using incognito mode. Another tip: avoid entering any sensitive information (like passwords) on public phones, and never leave the device unattended while WhatsApp Web is open.

Question: How many devices can I link to my WhatsApp account via WhatsApp Web?

Answer: As of 2025, you can link up to 4 devices to your WhatsApp account via WhatsApp Web or the Linked Devices feature. This includes web browsers, desktop apps, and other phones (using the Link to Phone feature). Each linked device remains connected until you unlink it from your primary phone. It’s important to keep track of your linked devices and unlink any that you no longer use or don’t recognize—this helps prevent unauthorized access to your account. You can check your linked devices by going to WhatsApp > Settings > Linked Devices on your primary phone.
